Position Summary
The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for developing and driving infrastructure platforms that deliver secure, reliable, and scalable services. This role leverages expertise in datacenters, cloud providers, automation, and data analytics to build modern cloud-based technology solutions.
The Engineer collaborates closely with stakeholders to ensure effective communication, support operational excellence, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. The role also independently manages routine operational tasks while proactively identifying opportunities to optimize and enhance cloud environments.
Essential Functions
Infrastructure Engineering (60%)
- Independently create modules, templates, and scripts to automate new use cases
- Independently create or manually deploy services for uncommon or large-scale use cases
- Communicate infrastructure and technology concepts effectively to stakeholders
- Collaborate regularly with leadership and peers to improve systems and reduce technical debt
- Implement datacenter and hybrid-cloud technologies with minimal guidance
- Support development teams by identifying the right cloud templates and automation solutions
Hybrid / Cloud Operations (40%)
- Independently manage routine operational tasks, issue resolution, and service requests
- Identify trends and opportunities to optimize and secure private, hybrid, or public cloud environments
- Coordinate issue resolution, troubleshooting, and escalation with stakeholders as needed
- Improve technical documentation and knowledge-base content for operational support teams
Qualifications
Education
Required:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Preferred:
- Relevant cloud or infrastructure certifications preferred
Experience
Required:
- 2–4+ years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud operations, or related technical roles
- Experience working with at least one public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) or private datacenter environments
- Experience with scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and automation tools
Preferred:
- Experience with CI/CD processes, code reviews, deployment pipelines, and release management
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, Grafana, or Prometheus
- Experience working with containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with cloud landing zone architectures and infrastructure governance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering
- Familiarity with cross-functional technologies used across multiple technical teams
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and processes
- Experience with public cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP
Automation & DevOps
- Experience with scripting and automation technologies such as:
- Terraform
- Ansible
- Helm
- GitHub Actions
- PowerShell
- Python
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and deployment automation
- Familiarity with HashiCorp Cloud Platform (Terraform & Vault) preferred
Security & Identity
- Experience with identity and access management solutions such as:
- Active Directory
- AzureAD
- Okta
- LDAP
AI & Emerging Technologies
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Replit, or Claude Code
- Familiarity with AI models and API platforms such as OpenAI and Anthropic
Communication & Collaboration
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
Location: Boston, MA or Chicago, IL
Working Model: Hybrid, minimum 1 days per week in office
U.S. Compensation Information
Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package.
Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range to be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:
- In Boston, MA, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $97,000 – $116,500
- In Chicago, IL, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $93,000 – $111,500
Placement within these ranges will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, certifications, training, and skill level.
Compensation also includes:
- Annual discretionary performance bonus
- Potential eligibility for additional discretionary compensation
- 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, increasing after 3 years of service and 100% vested upon start date

For all other locations, compensation will be commensurate with competitive geographic market rates and will vary based on several factors including experience, education, certifications, training, and skill level.
