We get a lot of great questions from people exploring a career at Bain, so we asked our team directly. Watch as consultants, recruiters, and our EVP of Global Consultant Recruiting answer your most-asked questions on case prep, culture, and what it takes to build a career here.

Consultants: On case prep, sustainability, and the work itself

How should you prepare for case interviews?

Cameron (Consultant, London): Find a consistent case partner, it makes a massive difference having that person to give you feedback and help you prepare. And when you get to interview day, just enjoy it. Interviewers notice when a candidate is genuinely engaged with the problem, and that energy makes a real impression.

What does sustainability look like for you?

Janice (Consultant, Kuala Lumpur): Working sustainably means being intentional about my energy. I set boundaries upfront, communicate them with the team, and protect at least one early night a week. Small, intentional habits make a bigger difference than dramatic resets.

What type of work have you been doing?

Ethan (Associate Consultant, Denver): I recently worked with an aerospace parts manufacturer evaluating their contracting processes, leading daily meetings with finance and sales teams and seeing the direct impact for the client in real time. It was a great blend of analytical problem-solving and client collaboration.

Recruiters: On what Bain looks for, choosing an office, and networking

What does Bain look for in candidates?

Sabur (Recruiting Specialist, New York): We're not looking for one type of person. What matters is a willingness to learn and to connect with people and that comes through in every interaction, from campus events to coffee chats, long before a formal application.

How should I pick which Bain office to apply to?

Anny (Recruiting Senior Manager, Brussels): Start with where you want to build your life, not just your career. Geography, language, and personal ties matter more in the long run than people expect.

What's your advice for networking?

Priya (Recruiting Manager, New Delhi): Be intentional and authentic. Come prepared with a real reason you're reaching out, and ask questions focused on the role or team you're genuinely curious about.

EVP of Global Consultant Recruiting: On what sets Bain apart and transitioning into consulting

What differentiates Bain from other firms?

Keith (EVP of Global Consultant Recruiting, Chicago): Two things. First, we care about impact over impressiveness; an answer that's 90% right but fully actionable is better than one that's technically perfect but impossible to use. Second, we genuinely invest in helping every person here be the best version of themselves, in a way other firms just don't.

How do I transition into consulting with no background?

Keith (EVP of Global Consultant Recruiting, Chicago): The first time anyone becomes a consultant, they don't have a consulting background. Diverse teaming is a Bain operating principle because different experiences, expertise, and perspectives lead to better answers for our clients. There are lots of different paths into Bain, and that's intentional.
