WHERE YOU'LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
The Senior Data Architect will lead the design, development, and governance of an enterprise-scale modern data platform on Azure. The role will focus on building a scalable, secure, and high-performing data ecosystem using Azure Databricks (Medallion architecture), Azure Data Factory (ADF), Unity Catalog, and Purview for data governance. The Architect will operate at the intersection of business, product, and engineering teams, defining and implementing end-to-end data architectures that enable advanced analytics, AI, and visualization capabilities. This role will ensure seamless data integration and accessibility across Tableau, Power BI, and custom full-stack applications. This position requires a strong balance of strategic vision, technical leadership, and hands-on engineering capabilities.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Data Architecture Design (25%)
- Define and maintain the overall data architecture framework (Azure Databricks, ADF, Medallion, etc.) ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
Data Platform Implementation (20%)
- Lead hands-on implementation and integration of Azure-based components, including orchestration, data modeling, and semantic layer design.
Governance & Cataloging (15%)
- Implement and maintain Unity Catalog and Purview for data lineage, cataloging, access control, and governance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration (15%)
- Partner with data engineers, analysts, and business teams to translate
Performance Optimization & Quality (10%)
- Ensure platform optimization, data quality, and reliability through best practices and automation.
Innovation & Emerging Tech (10%)
- Evaluate and adopt emerging tools, frameworks, and AI-driven data solutions to advance platform capabilities.
Mentorship & Leadership (5%)
- Guide and mentor junior engineers and analysts on data architecture best practices.
ABOUT YOU
- Associate's/Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- 8–12+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics platform design
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure cloud and Databricks ecosystem.
- Deep understanding of Azure cloud data services, including Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2), Azure Synapse, and Azure SQL.
- Expertise in Medallion architecture (Bronze–Silver–Gold layers) design for scalable and maintainable data pipelines.
- Proficiency in data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration using Azure Data Factory and Databricks.
- Experience with data governance, cataloging, and lineage using Microsoft Purview and Unity Catalog.
- Ability to design and implement a semantic layer enabling self-service BI and data democratization.
- Strong skills in SQL, Python, PySpark, and data modeling (dimensional, canonical, and data vault).
- Familiarity with metadata management, data quality frameworks, and MDM concepts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Working knowledge of dashboarding tools like Tableau and Power BI, and integration with AI/ML and full-stack applications.
- Understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance best practices (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
- Proven track record in end-to-end architecture and delivery of modern data platforms on Azure.
- Experience designing lakehouse and data warehouse solutions that support both analytics and operational data consumption.
- Background in establishing data governance frameworks and driving data architecture standards.
- Experience leading data engineering and analytics teams in an agile environment.
- Prior exposure to AI/ML integration and conversational data access (chatbots) is a plus.

U.S. COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package (details listed below).
Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range be included in job postings for open roles. For all other locations, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates for this role and will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level
In Atlanta, GA, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $146,500-175,500, placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level
In Boston, MA, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $168,500-202,000, placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level
In Chicago, Illinois, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $161,000-193,000, placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level
In Dallas, TX, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $154,000-184,500, placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level
- Annual discretionary performance bonus
- This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation
- 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after 3 years of service and is 100% vested upon start date
