How have you grown in your career at Bain?

I started at Bain as an associate consultant. I worked on many interesting projects applying my experience in production engineering, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). When a role opened to work on a new team to start selling NPS Prism℠ in Brazil, I raised my hand and became one of the first employees. It’s growing fast and now we have hundreds of employees, within Bain.

It’s been a pleasure to watch all of this growth. When I was interviewing, I had three reasons in my mind why Bain was the place I wanted to work, and I’m happy to say that after five years, those same three things are still true. Bain is always innovating, so there are always new things to work on. The people are very smart and dedicated. And the growth opportunities are enormous. If you’re focused, you’ll blink and suddenly you’re supervising a team.

To what do you credit your success?

Two main things: First, the culture. Here, we say “a Bainie never lets another Bainie fail,” and that’s true. In my first year, I had to work really hard to keep up and my manager worked so closely to help me that it honestly changed my life. Since then, that same advisor is still working with me.

The second thing is you’ll learn exceptional problem-solving skills. You become a specialist in breaking down problems and prioritizing them, and there’s also sorts of mental tools you learn, like focusing on the 20% of the problem that’ll deliver 80% of the results. The things you learn here make you so effective, organized, and productive.

What project are you most proud of?

I would definitely say getting to start the NPS Prism℠ team here in Brazil. Bain offers many skill tracks and roles, and I got to find my own path. I received a lot of support during that transition, from partners and Prism leadership. I got to build a new skill tracker for junior team members, participate in recruiting, and help form the culture. Looking back, I can recall us all asking, “Is this worth it? Should we invest?” We did, and took that risk, and now it’s growing quickly. I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve built.
