Chairman for Bain Asia Pacific
Satish Shankar is Chairman for Bain & Company in Asia Pacific. For nearly three decades, he has worked closely with founders, CEOs, and boards across the region, helping businesses unlock growth and transformation—particularly founder-led enterprises with bold regional and global ambitions. He works at the intersection of strategy, M&A, and digital and AI-enabled transformation, supporting leaders through pivotal moments of change and innovation.
Satish previously served as Bain’s Asia Pacific Regional Managing Partner from 2019, and before that as Managing Partner for Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific leader for our Mergers & Acquisitions practice. During his tenure, he led the firm through unprecedented macroeconomic conditions, including the pandemic years. Under his leadership, the firm achieved double-digit growth across the region and successfully transformed new offices in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand into some of Bain’s strongest growth platforms.
Satish brings extensive expertise across airlines, agribusiness, energy and natural resources, and consumer products. He has led engagements spanning corporate strategy, large-scale transformation, performance improvement, turnarounds, market entry, and M&A. He also has deep experience in due diligence, post-merger integration, and emerging-markets strategy.
He is deeply committed to sustainability, which he views as one of the defining challenges and opportunities of this generation. Satish has supported financial investors and industry leaders in embedding sustainability into strategy and operations, and has served as an appointed member of the Asia Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory Panel (ASIA Panel), established by the Singapore government.
Beyond Bain, Satish has served as an advisor to a large Singapore-based family office and as a member of the Foundation Board of United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA). He is passionate about purpose-driven leadership and strongly committed to mentoring the next generation of leaders, both within Bain and across Asia’s ecosystem of founders, operators, and investors.
Satish holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and a B.Tech. in chemical engineering (First Class with Distinction) from Anna University, Madras.
