WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
Future Back Ventures (FBV) is Bain & Company’s venture fund focused on investing in early-stage, promising startups founded or led by Bain alumni. FBV invests alongside leading venture firms and helps portfolio companies access the best of Bain through strategic advisory support, talent, community, introductions, and practical operating resources. As a small, entrepreneurial team inside Bain, FBV combines rigorous investment judgment with hands-on support for founders building the companies of the future.
WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
This is an exciting opportunity to join the investment team of a growing venture fund inside Bain. The person in this role will support the full investment process, from sourcing and thesis development through diligence and investment recommendation.
The associate will help FBV identify compelling Bain alumni-led startups, develop investment perspectives on priority sectors and themes, and conduct rigorous analysis to inform investment decisions. The role offers broad exposure to founders, co-investors, Bain senior leaders, and the fund’s Investment Committee.
This role is best suited to a highly analytical and proactive individual who combines strong business judgment with intellectual curiosity, relationship-building capability, and a willingness to get into the details when needed.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Key responsibilities for this role include:
Deal sourcing and pipeline development (30%)
- Identify and qualify potential investment opportunities through market research, outbound sourcing, founder and investor networking, and engagement with the Bain alumni community.
- Build and maintain thematic and sector maps to support proactive sourcing in areas of interest to the fund.
- Drive and track pipeline activity with discipline and help ensure that opportunities are advanced, paused, or declined with clear rationale and strong follow-through.
Due diligence and investment recommendations (55%)
- Conduct rigorous research and analysis on prospective investments, including market size, competitive dynamics, business model, go-to-market approach, customer traction, product-market fit, unit economics, and key risks.
- Develop investment materials, including market scans, diligence summaries, financial analyses, and investment memoranda for internal discussion and Investment Committee review.
- Support founder, customer, expert, and reference conversations and synthesize findings into clear points of view and actionable recommendations.
- Help codify lessons from past investment decisions and pipeline retrospectives to strengthen FBV’s pattern recognition and diligence approach over time.
Fund strategy, portfolio support, and special projects (15%)
- Contribute meaningfully to sector theses, market perspectives, and other strategic work that sharpens the fund’s investment focus.
- Support additional fund initiatives and special projects as needed in a small, entrepreneurial team environment.
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelors or equivalent undergraduate degree required with strong academic credentials.
- 2-4 years of relevant professional experience in management consulting, investment banking, venture capital, private equity, corporate development, startup strategy, or a related field.
- Experience evaluating markets, companies, or investment opportunities is preferred.
- Prior work with early-stage companies, founders, or entrepreneurial ecosystems is helpful.
- Prior experience at Bain & Company is preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical horsepower, including comfort structuring ambiguous problems, conducting market research, and translating findings into an investment point of view.
- Clear and persuasive written communication, with the ability to develop well-structured presentations and investment materials.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills; able to build credibility with founders, co-investors, Bain alumni, and internal stakeholders.
- High level of ownership, curiosity, and self-direction in a lean team environment.
- Sound business judgment, intellectual honesty, and comfort forming recommendations with incomplete information.

This role follows a hybrid model, requiring in-office presence at least 1 day per week with limited travel as needed.
