How did you end up in consulting?

Consulting felt like a natural progression for me, coming from a very entrepreneurial family. My parents are both business owners, and from a young age, I was immersed in the world of commerce. However, the key turning point came during my teenage years when my family’s business faced bankruptcy. This was a profoundly impactful period for me. I saw first-hand the highs and lows of business life and the fine line between success and failure. This experience sparked intellectual curiosity to understand the mechanics behind business successes and failures.

I learned about consulting careers at university. I was drawn to its promise of diverse challenges and the opportunity to dissect and solve complex business problems. Working at Bain, you consistently strive for impactful results that not only address client needs but also set new industry standards, which felt very appealing to me.

How do you balance your life with work as a consultant?

In my opinion, balancing work and personal life as a consultant hinges on clear communication and boundary setting. At Bain, I found that people respect your work-life balance boundaries, if you clearly communicate them.

Also, I think you have to have activities or hobbies that help you disconnect from work. Personally, I like to watch old Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, barbecuing any time of the year, and playing spikeball or boxing.

How did your previous experience help you excel at Bain?

Before joining Bain, I worked in another consulting firm which helped me develop core consulting skill set, including problem solving, communication and teamwork.

However, I think the most helpful is having the motivational and intellectual drive from my family business experience.
