How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?

The people! You'll hear this answer frequently, and for good reason. Throughout the recruiting process, there were so many kind people that I spoke to, and since I've started working, I've had such extraordinary teams and peers.

Beyond that, the firm is structured in a way that supports mentorships and long-lasting relationships. For example, the home office staffing model means that you'll run into old teammates around the office, or sometimes work with the same person across multiple projects. Additionally, there are formal and informal mentorship opportunities through case teams, affinity groups, and office programming.

I've found that the people at Bain are truly invested in others on both a professional and personal level. This applies throughout their time at Bain and, in many cases, even beyond that. It's something that really stuck out to me when I was an ACI, and it continues to hold true the longer I work here!

Share some of your favorite work (personal or professional) you’ve done while at Bain.

I recently had the opportunity to work on a pro-bono case for an LGBTQ+ advocacy nonprofit. The work was impactful, the clients were wonderful, and the Bain team was so invested in the outcomes of the case.

I hadn't done much social impact work prior, but being able to use the skills I'd learned across my other projects on something I was extra passionate about was so rewarding. We got to work side-by-side with our clients and set them up for long-term success, thinking about their fundraising strategy, marketing tactics, and more.

On a more personal note, as someone who's a part of Pride at Bain, getting to support my community on such a large scale is one of the most amazing opportunities I've ever had. While I've done many cool cases at Bain, this one will always be a special memory for me.

What advice would you give a candidate who is interested in recruiting for consulting?

As you talk to people during the recruiting process and expand your network, prioritize authenticity and curiosity in your approach. Ask genuine questions, let your personality shine through, and find points of connection with the people you engage with.

Consultants have such varied experiences, since our work can be across so many different industries and capabilities. Engaging with different experiences not only allows you to understand the full breadth of work you may be doing, but it also demonstrates the innate curiosity that you need to thrive in this career!
