Associate (Front End) - Retail

ECD plays a critical role as it adds value to Bain's case teams globally by supporting them with analytics and research solutions across all industries, specific domains for corporate cases, client development, private equity diligence, and Bain intellectual property.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH:

The Retail Center of Expertise collaborates with Bain’s global Retail Practice leadership, client-facing Bain leadership and teams, and with end clients on the development and delivery of Bain’s proprietary Retail products and solutions. These solutions aim to answer strategic questions of Bain’s Retail clients relating to category management, COGS optimization, pricing & promotion analytics, space optimization, and customer analytics.

As part of the Retail Center of Expertise, you will work in teams comprising a mix of Directors, Managers, Projects Leads, Associates, and Analysts, on projects ranging from 3 weeks to 6 months. Delivery models on projects vary from working as part of a broader global Bain case team, working independently with a Bain Associate Partner / Partner, or working directly with end clients.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Contribute as an associate to develop applications/ products within Retail domain (Grocery, Apparel, General Merchandise, e-commerce, B2B retail, etc.)
• Design solutions and implement user interfaces with a focus on usability, performance, and scalability
• Utilize React.js for Front-End and Python-based APIs for server-side logic and application integration; Integrate with databases, ensuring efficient and optimized database interactions
• Good understanding of creating Docker containers to deploy tools in cloud environments such as Azure and AWS
• Write reusable and maintainable code, adhering to best practices and coding standards
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve software defects and issues promptly
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
• Stay informed about industry trends and best practices to consistently enhance development processes
• Assist in recruiting, marketing and training

ABOUT YOU:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in a Full Stack Developer or similar role
• Proficiency in Front-End development using React.js
• Proficiency in Back-End development using Python (FastAPI preferred) 
• Strong HTML and CSS skills, with an eye for design and user experience
• Strong experience and knowledge of Front-End Design Patterns and System Design
• Strong experience in Web Performance Optimization and the ability to apply it to all web products being developed

• Good to have hands-on experience with back-end development languages like Node.js and Golang
• Good to have hands-on experience with Angular.js or Dash for front-end development
• Good to have hands-on experience with Azure SQL/MySQL/Snowflake and MongoDB/DynamoDB
• Expert Knowledge of VCS system like Git, BitBucket or Github

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver high quality results under tight deadlines
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team
• Must have strong communication skills and the ability to drive discussions/presentations with senior stakeholders and client maps
• Knowledge of key data sources and metrics in the Retail industry, with experience in one or more sub-sectors, is a plus
