I began my career in Finance and Capital Markets for an electric utility. Expecting to make a long-term career with my former company, I opted to attend the Evening MBA program at Goizueta Business School to grow as a person and gain the skills I needed to continue building a career in the Energy sector. As I learned more about strategy consulting, I became convinced I could have an even greater impact in the Energy space through a career at Bain and decided to begin recruiting.
Throughout the recruiting process, I met so many incredible Bainies who shared their experiences, answered all my questions, and helped me prepare for interviews. I was absolutely ecstatic to receive my offer and joined Bain as a Consultant in 2014.
Do you feel like you can do impactful work at Bain? What opportunities excite you?
As part of the Utilities and Renewables practice, I get to spend every day helping my clients navigate the energy transition. While I have always loved the sector, I have noticed a step change in the impact of our work on this important topic over the past few years. I spend the majority of my time helping utilities prepare the grid for this transition. I've been fortunate to work with utilities across the country to develop grid strategies that will enable EV and residential solar adoption, mitigate the impacts and risks of climate change, and improve the overall reliability and resiliency of the infrastructure all while maintaining affordable power bills . These grid strategies are a critical enabler of the energy transition at the macro level and lead to an even better experience for all customers on a more personal level.
Share some of your favorite work (personal or professional) you’ve done while at Bain.
One of my first grid planning cases stands out as a favorite. It was the absolute trifecta of enduring impact, incredible clients, and an amazing team. In the beginning, we drove through neighborhoods to look at distribution lines with our clients to really understand the challenges facing the grid. Now, I can drive those same streets and see our work in action in the form of redesigned power lines and in some cases, not seeing lines at all because they were placed underground. While the work was a highlight, the one team culture that grew between our team and the clients was something special. I still call many of members of the team close friends and mentors.
