Share your journey to Bain.

I grew up in Mumbai, India, and moved to the United States for college at Brown University, where I graduated in 2019 with a degree in Biology and English. I first joined Bain as an Associate Consultant Intern in 2018 and returned full time in 2019 as an Associate Consultant. During my early years at Bain, I worked across a range of industries including retail, healthcare, and commercial excellence, gaining broad exposure to different client challenges, types of work, and industries.

As a Senior Associate Consultant, I did an 'externship' at AbleTo, a B2B mental health company in New York, where I furthered my interest in healthcare innovation. I then completed a graduate degree in Global Health and Policy at the University of Pennsylvania before returning to Bain as a Consultant in the Boston office.

Since rejoining, I have primarily focused on the Private Equity practice, supporting diligence efforts for our PE clients across diverse sectors.

How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?

I knew Bain was the right place for me because of the culture. From my very first interactions, I was struck by how smart but also warm, welcoming, and genuine everyone was; these were people I wanted to work with and spend time with outside of work.

During my internship, I saw how deeply collaborative and supportive Bain truly is. Mentorship is built into every level, and success comes from people helping each other grow. I also felt Bain’s investment in me as a person, not just as a professional.

What makes Bain stand out is the ability to bring your whole self to work. Affinity groups like Asians at Bain, Internationals at Bain, and Women at Bain create real community and connection. That combination of support, inclusivity, and authenticity is what made me sure that Bain was the right company for me.

What advice would you give a candidate who is interested in recruiting for consulting?

There is no single “right” background for consulting. I studied English and Biology and came in with no business experience, yet I never felt at a disadvantage. What matters is not the specifics of your major or past roles, but how you think and approach problems.

At Bain, we value many different kinds of “smartness.” Creative thinking, curiosity, and problem solving are just as important as technical knowledge. The hard skills can always be learned on the job, so don’t let a lack of business experience hold you back or make you doubt yourself.

My advice is to lean into the unique perspective you bring. That diversity of thought is what makes teams stronger and consulting so exciting.
