Senior Manager, TSG Product Management, Boston

Sobre Courtney

Hi, my name is Courtney. I'm a senior manager of the Tech Innovation Pipeline team in our Boston office. I joined Bain in 2006 as part of the Help Desk team within TSG (Technology Services Group).

"Throughout my time at Bain, I've been in various roles with exposure to many different areas of technology, which has given me a great foundation of knowledge."

After my time on the Help Desk, I moved to a project manager position on our Infrastructure team. I frequently talked to a variety of stakeholders to ensure I understood everyone’s expectations and needs, and tried to deliver a product that could meet them. These interpersonal and communication skills have helped me immensely in my current role on the Tech Innovation Pipeline team.

My current position did not yet exist when I first started expressing interest. I had heard about an internal innovation initiative to manage the many requests for various technologies received by TSG and other departments. I was unsure whether there was a need for my skill set in this initiative, but I decided to express interest anyway. That turned out to be one of the best decisions of my career thus far. After just over a year as the project manager of the Tech Innovation Pipeline, I received a promotion to senior manager.

I very much enjoy learning about different types of technology. This role not only requires that I consistently learn and stay on top of technology trends, but that I think strategically about how trends impact Bain. One of the most exhilarating aspects of my job is the fact that I am blazing my own path. Since the Tech Innovation Pipeline is a newer initiative, the sky is the limit. There's always something to do or improve, and that sense of ownership has been extremely challenging, motivating and fulfilling.

If you see an opportunity at Bain, don’t be afraid to go for it. Stay in tune with what your strengths are and what gives you energy, and then look to apply those skills in a way that would benefit the larger Bain team. In addition, don’t underestimate the importance of teamwork. Don’t be afraid to jump into something that may be technically outside of your current job description, if it means you can help your broader team. Bain is an organization of great teams, and that has kept me engaged and motivated all of these years.
