Emerging nations seen needing $13 trillion for power sector

Emerging nations need to invest twice as much in electricity than developed countries over the next two decades to power fast-growing economies and meet emission-reduction targets, according to a Bain & Company report for the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. They will probably seek about 70% of the funding from private investors, up from about 30% now, as wind and solar power typically requires higher up-front investment than conventional generation. "There's a huge wave of capital that's required," said Julian Critchlow, the leader of Bain's Global Utilities & Alternative Energy practice.
