LONDON – May 4th 2021- Bain & Company expands its European Healthcare team with three new hires. Sarwar Islam and Patrick Biecheler join as partners focusing on biopharmaceuticals and private equity in London and Paris respectively; and Giorgio Ortolani joins as a partner in Rome with a focus on pharmaceuticals and medical technology.
Sarwar has 25 years of experience in Biopharma across consulting and as an industry executive. He brings extensive experience in driving growth strategies and large scale transformations for multiple global biopharma and off-patent pharma clients. He has also advised many leading private equity investors on identifying investable assets in healthcare, due diligence and value realization post acquisition. Prior to joining Bain & Company, Sarwar served as a member of the Executive Management team at Concordia International Corp. (Advanz Pharma) and was a partner at another consulting firm. Sarwar also worked as a research scientist at Abbott Laboratories. He was trained as an organic chemist and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
Patrick has more than two decades of experience across both consulting and industry roles. He was previously a partner at another global consultancy and worked at AstraZeneca and Sanofi. He is highly regarded in the French healthcare sector for his pharmaceuticals and provider expertise, serving healthcare organizations and private equity funds. Patrick brings extensive expertise within strategy, portfolio management, and operational effectiveness. He also holds an MBA in marketing and finance from ESSEC Business School.
Giorgio has more than 20 years of consulting experience across multiple areas including healthcare services, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology. He has deep expertise in innovative commercial models, growth programs, patient outcomes maximization strategies, life cycle management and digital transformation as well as post-merger integration and cost reduction. Giorgio also has substantial experience in multiple specialty areas and particularly in Oncology and rare diseases – strategic priorities for many pharmaceutical organizations. He holds a Master’s degree in managerial engineering from Tor Vergata University of Rome and a post-graduate MBA from INSEAD.
