Road Infrastructure in Brazil: a proposal to develop it

Much is said about infrastructure investments in Brazil. In early 2013 the federal government rushed to launch a major package of concessions and privatization of ports, railways and airports. The package also called for 7500 km of federal highways to be recovered, partially duplicated and maintained by private enterprise.

Bain & Company believes that investment in highways is the key to a country with continental proportions like Brazil. The report observes how  Brazilian roads compare to those of other countries. The focus is mainly on comparing indices such as range and network coverage, safety and cost of transportation, maintenance conditions and level of annual investment, but also issues such as the regulation of the sector and the role of the state in highway investment and maintenance.
