The Web Data CoE has a mission to be and provide data to all uplines within Bain. We are sector and region agnostic. Through proprietary technologies and tools built internally we can extract targeted data from many web pages. The Web Data CoE is an active participant in innovation for alternative data software solutions that leverage webscraping technologies.
WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
As a Specialist in Web Data Operations, you will execute and support web scraping projects using Bain’s proprietary web data platform. You’ll apply technical expertise to deliver high-quality, accurate datasets in response to a wide range of consulting needs. Over time, you’ll grow into a subject-area expert on scraping strategy, tool usage, and delivery quality within our Web Data Center of Excellence (CoE).
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Deliver recurring and one-off web scraping projects using Bain’s proprietary platform, ensuring quality, completeness, and timeliness
- Own (Senior Specialist) or manage (Specialist) end-to-end project delivery, including scoping, configuration, execution, QA, and handoff
- Configure and optimize scraping tools (e.g., proxies, selectors, parsers) for varied use cases and troubleshoot technical edge cases
- Collaborate with fulfillment and data teams to define scope, align on timelines, and ensure accurate output delivery
- Conduct proactive QA, investigate inconsistencies, escalate bugs, and propose improvements to reduce defects and delays
- Serve as a technical lead on projects (role-scaled by level), supporting delivery excellence and stakeholder communication
- Document scraping strategies and contribute to internal playbooks and knowledge repositories
- Stay current on emerging web data, scraping, and automation trends
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to building internal expertise (Senior Specialist)
ABOUT YOU
Must-have
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical, data, or analytical field
- 1+ years (Specialist) or 2+ years (Senior Specialist) of experience working with web scraping tools or delivering structured web data
- Experience using or exposure to JavaScript, HTML, or Node.js
- Familiarity with data formats such as JSON and CSV
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Clear communicator with internal delivery teams
- Interest in web data, browser behavior, and automation logic
- Self-starter with a process improvement mindset
Nice-to-have
- Experience with proxies, scraping edge cases, or anti-bot mitigation (e.g., IP rotation)
- Experience using scraping frameworks or proxy management tools
- Exposure to SQL, APIs, or modern scraping architectures
- Experience working in fast-paced, data- or client-oriented environments
WORK MODEL / TRAVEL
This role follows a hybrid model, requiring in-office presence at least 2 days per week.
U.S. COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package (details listed below).
Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range to be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:
• In Illinois, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $70,000 - $84,000 (Specialist) and $103,500 - $124,500 (Senior Specialist)
• Annual discretionary performance bonus
• This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation
• 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after 3 years of service and is 100% vested upon start date
