WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
Over the past two decades, Bain has formalized Industry and Capability areas, internally known as “Practices”, integral to how Bain wins and delivers results to its clients. A Practice can be considered a Business Unit of Bain & Company. While there may be some allocation to client-facing work, the role within a Practice is primarily focused on supporting our client-facing partners and case teams to deliver great client and people success stories. Specifically, the Practice defines and implements their own strategy and allocates resources to:
- Boosts Bain’s knowledge and expertise in the sector or capability: co-create, shape and manage innovative perspectives and products to help the business win more projects, and to serve clients more effectively and efficiently
- Prioritize clients and enable client full potential
- Develop partner team and capabilities
- Build the practice’s brand and reputation externally

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
Sustainability (which covers environmental, social, and economic justice issues) is an increasingly important topic for our clients. In the Sustainability Practice, we help our clients make critical decisions that impact the core of their business strategy, related to sustainability strategy, the environmental and social impact of operations, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability-related growth and cost opportunities. We work to ensure that sustainability efforts are anchored in business fundamentals and demonstrate a clear return on investment – and that those efforts are then firmly embedded within our clients' strategy and operations.

The Practice Consultant is a critical member of the Sustainability Practice, and the analytical, interpersonal, creative thinking, business management and leadership skills will be called upon from day one. You will also work alongside the Practice team to become a critical contributor to help achieve the Practice’s annual and longer-term goals which includes driving global collaboration, supporting case teams to drive results with clients, building new intellectual property (IP) and increasing our visibility and reinforcing our competitive differentiation externally. This role requires close collaboration with Bain’s Sustainability Partners, other experts across Bain globally, and potentially internal engineering and product teams or external technology partners to build or partner on innovative tech solutions.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The scope of work is flexible but will likely fall into the following main categories.
Solution design, development, deployment, and delivery
- Use product thinking to shape digital and AI-enabled sustainability solutions — translating customer or user needs into actionable features and priorities
- Contribute to digital and AI scaling efforts by identifying opportunities to embed automation, analytics, and emerging technologies that enhance delivery and impact
- Provide hands-on support for clients and case teams, for example in leveraging technology solutions
- Assess and recommend AI and digital tools, guiding build vs. buy decisions and leading third-party vendor assessments for sustainability-related technologies
- Support development and piloting of AI-driven sustainability solutions by forging strategic partnerships with technology providers and/or building and testing proof-of-concept models in collaboration with engineering teams
- Identify issues, create hypotheses, and execute analysis; translate data into meaningful insights; present recommendations to key decision-makers
Practice strategy, planning, and reporting
- Contribute to a culture of innovation by surfacing new ideas, sharing learnings from pilots, and championing the use of emerging technologies within the practice
- Monitor developments in AI and emerging technologies and help translate these into practical insights, tools, or trainings to upskill colleagues across the practice
- Manage and prioritize a product management backlog of Sustainability related IP items
- Provide direct proposal support
- Codify best practices
- Contribute to additional projects and perform select ad hoc analytics
Practice communications and teaming
- Work effectively cross-practice and cross-functionally; proactively share and solicit information across practice, focusing on the key implications
- Serve as a bridge between sustainability and digital transformation teams, ensuring AI-driven solutions align with both business and sustainability impact goals
- Support impact tracking and feedback loops for piloted tools and IP to inform iteration and broader scaling
- Train and informally coach junior team members, as appropriate
ABOUT YOU
Education & Experience
- 5-8 years experience at a top tier management consultant firm or as product management / strategy lead at tech firm + undergrad, or 4-5 years experience with MBA/Master’s
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Analytical and problem solving skills and expertise to push insights to conclusive recommendations
- Ability to effectively drive a piece of work end-to-end with limited direction
- Can perform complex, accurate analysis
- Continuously learns from one experience to another and makes thoughtful recommendations on improvements
- Structure and design impactful slides and updates; can clearly communicate insights and implications of work
- Steer and direct highly effective small meetings; participates in meetings with more senior stakeholders and appropriately shares opinion
- Track record of inspiring, motivating and apprenticing junior team members
- Demonstrated product thinking: able to frame user needs, inform feature prioritization, and guide digital solution development in partnership with technical teams
- Demonstrated experience engaging with technical topics and tools (e.g., Python, OpenAI APIs, Azure)
- Familiarity with machine learning workflows and tools (e.g., model training, evaluation, or deployment), with the ability to collaborate effectively with data scientists/ML engineers
- Experience working in fast-evolving, ambiguous environments — such as internal innovation teams or digital incubators
- Familiarity with AI/ML technologies and tools (e.g., Python, R, OpenAI APIs), with an applied understanding of how they can create business value
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams, including engineers, product managers, and sustainability experts
- Ability to communicate technical or digital concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Fluency in English
