About Martin

Dr. Martin Holzapfel is a partner in Bain & Company's Munich office. He leads Bain's Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions practice in Germany and is an expert in the firm's Private Equity and Advanced Manufacturing & Services practices. 

Martin has nearly 15 years of management consulting experience, advising leading private equity firms as well as industrial and high-tech clients around the world.

Martin has led more than 100 due diligence processes for private equity and industrial investors during his tenure with Bain. His consulting portfolio ranges from strategic repositioning to turnarounds and operational full potential programs, with a specific focus on R&D and engineering.

Prior to joining Bain in 2001, Martin worked for Siemens Corporate Technology in Munich and Kyoto. As a project manager, he was responsible for the Siemens competence pool speech synthesis that he founded in 1996 and still holds more than 50 patents in this field.

Martin earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Dresden University of Technology. He holds an MS in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as an MBA from TU München. He holds more than 50 patents and was awarded the Related National Prize of the German engineering association VDE for his thesis.
