Ishita Mehta: From Bain's New Delhi office, Ishita joined the WEF team in New York, where she was part of the second year of the multiyear "Future of Consumption in Fast-Growth Consumer Markets" project, with a focus on India in 2018. The Bain India team conducted an in-depth consumer research across more than five thousand consumer households, and interviewed more than 45 CXOs of consumer business- both Indian and Global, established and emerging ones. The rich insights from the project helped articulate seven thought-provoking predictions that help envision the future consumer market in India in 2030.
"Working at the World Economic Forum was a once in a lifetime experience. I have always been keenly interested in the evolving consumer landscape of India, and this project truly allowed me to understand the length and breadth of it. In true Bain style, this involved a team effort to build strong, data-backed assertions while getting to the heart of evolving consumer attitudes. It was also a platform to ‘think like a CXO’ as I interacted with many Global and Indian business leaders, innovators and policymakers to understand their vision and concerns for the future. This helped the team think about strategic opportunities and challenges for consumer businesses in a very holistic manner. Personally, this was a very fulfilling experience that allowed me to lead a Bain team, engage with a variety of stakeholders and play a part in Bain’s thought leadership in this consumer space. During my work at the WEF New York office, I also got a chance to connect with teams working on forward looking areas ranging from the Future of Food to the Future of Mobility. "
