ADvantage Program

ADvantage Program

We are thrilled to offer ADvantage, a week-long advanced degree internship designed to give graduate students, postdocs, and medical residents the opportunity to learn first-hand what it is like to be a Bain consultant.

Program Overview

Program Overview

Our ADvantage program is a highly selective, week-long internship designed for advanced degree candidates seeking an immersion into life at Bain and a career in consulting. The program includes a full day of training followed by four days of a staffing assignment on a real case team. ADvantage interns will participate in our client work, manage their own workstream, and attend a variety of social activities that will provide opportunities to meet the members of our team and experience our rich and supportive culture.

Interns will also receive a guaranteed final-round interview for our full-time Consultant positions.

Applications go live in February 2020! A resume and cover letter are required.

ADvantage is intended for candidates that are currently enrolled in an advanced degree program (JD, MD or PhD), or currently completing a postdoc or medical residency/internship. Certain non-MBA Master’s candidates with > 3 years of relevant work experience will also be considered.

Eligible candidates will be located in North America (US or Canada) and pursuing a full-time career starting in 2021.

A round of interviews are required for our ADvantage programs. Candidates should expect a mix of case and experience interviews. Those that have been selected to interview will be notified in early-mid April.

Consultant mentors will be offered to help you prepare for your interviews, but we recommend starting your own prep early so you can take full advantage of practicing with your mentor.

ADvantage interviews will take place the last weeks of April – the first weeks of May. Dates may vary by office.

The application deadline is Sunday, March 22nd, 2020 @ 11:59pm ET.

The application will go live on February 1, 2020 and remain open until our deadline.

Before starting the application, please be prepared to upload a one - two-page business format resume and cover letter. Transcripts are not required.

Given that full-time Consultant offers will be extended to successful interns, candidates should apply to the offices/programs where they hope to start their full-time career. More details on office selection in the FAQs section

FAQs

  • How should I consider office location when applying to ADvantage programs?
    • We encourage candidates to apply to the program(s) in the offices where they would happily accept a full-time Bain offer and where they would like to live and work during their full-time career.

    • In the application, you will have the ability to confirm your office preference(s), selecting up to three offices - allocating 100 points across each office to reflect your interest-level, and those will become the offices that consider you for their ADvantage programs.
  • I am interested in a Bain office that is not offering ADvantage. How will Bain consider my candidacy for the program?
    • If your top office preference is not hosting an ADvantage program, we encourage you to apply to your second choice office – as long as you would sincerely be open to working full-time in that office.

    • If there is not a hosting office that you are interested in working full-time, we encourage you to recruit with us during our full-time recruitment process later in the summer (July deadline with interviews to follow throughout July - September).
  • Will a failed application and/or interview for ADvantage affect my chances of securing an interview during the regular full-time recruitment process?

A failed application and/or interview for ADvantage will NOT affect your candidacy during our full-time recruitment process – they are entirely separate processes. Bain reconsiders all ADvantage applicants and interviewees during our full-time recruitment process later in the year, and we have had several candidates go on to receive their Bain offers this way in the past.

If you remain interested in working at the firm, we highly encourage reapplying by the July application deadline – with interviews to follow throughout July through September.

  • When will I be notified about the status of my ADvantage application?
    • Applications are not rolling, so we will not begin our review until after the deadline has passed. Candidates can expect to hear a decision on their application (selected/not selected to interview) by early-mid April.
