Bain Expert Vice President Gerry Mattios joined a panel of other experts at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting for a discussion of how global trade depends on transparency and trust, and how both are undermined by fragmentation in commerce. "When small enterprises are cut off from digital networks, they have no transaction history and are effectively invisible. That means banks won’t lend them money and large buyers won’t do business with them," Tradeshift explained in its recap of the discussion. Mattios and the panel discussed how distributed ledger technologies can address this challenge, creating visibility in supply chains without the need to agree on a central authority.
