I originally studies physics where I got exposed to computer science and programming. I began working as a freelance web developer during my studies, and I was excited by the possibilities and the opportunities to build digital products myself. After my studies, I decided to become a professional software engineer. I started my career working for smaller web portals and UI/UX agencies as a frontend developer. Here I primarily worked for large Telco clients helping them improve the user experience for the web, mobile, and TV apps.

After that, I decided to join an expansion stage tech startup, a B2B big data platform for SEO and online where I became a lead engineer and engineering manager responsible for the implementation of a new and innovative content marketing product. I worked very closely with the VP of engineering and VP of product and I enjoyed the cross-functional collaboration to deliver products that the user loves, and I stayed for several years. I then joined Bain three years ago and I continue to help our clients solve their business problems through the creation of digital products but also by helping their engineering organization to become more effective and agile.

How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?

I joined Bain in early 2019 because I wanted to work on a more diverse set of interesting projects. While I loved working for a tech company, after some time I felt that the overall range of problems I was solving was rather narrow and I was looking for new challenges, also outside of my domain. Bain offered a very interesting approach where experts work fully embedded inside case teams. This means that I can understand the challenges we are solving first-hand, which is important to deliver meaningful solutions, but also for me personally to grow outside my area of expertise. This unique setup and the fact that Bain follows a strong people-first mindset — both when working with clients and internally — made it an easy choice for me, and I can say today that it was the right choice.

Do you feel like you can do impactful work at Bain? What opportunities excite you?

Yes, all the projects I have been supporting in my three years at Bain have been very impactful. Bain works with the biggest companies worldwide, and we usually help them solve their most important challenges.

I particularly enjoy supporting projects where I can bring in my expertise in agile product development and innovation across all industries. I enjoy collaborating with client's product and engineering teams to not only delivering viable and desirable solutions but also setting up clients’ organization for sustainable success at scale. In general, I embrace the diversity of the projects at Bain, and the more challenging the problem and the more disruptive the solution the better. For me, the most important aspect is to keep an open mind and stay curious, as every project has its unique and interesting challenges.

“Build Your Own Bain” means creating a thriving career on your own terms. How have you been able to “Build Your Own Bain?”

As part of Bain's Global Engineering team, I am working with a group of industry experts in setting up a fairly new business department for success. This creates a wide range of opportunities to build my own Bain. We use the OKR framework to continuously improve our engineering organization, and this enables me to bring in my own ideas for topics I think we need to focus on.

At Bain proactivity is valued, and you are given the space to explore ideas, provide options for solutions or take the initiative to run important topics. This can include technical projects, like leveraging innovative technology to further increase our effectiveness, but also people-related topics, like strengthening our local team culture or growing the team.
