Share your journey to Bain.

My journey to Bain began during my freshman year of college when I discovered consulting through an organization called Rem on Campus. As a member, I learned what consulting was, which firms offered opportunities in the field, and—most importantly—how to get involved early. That’s how I was introduced to Bain and the Freshman Leadership Accelerator (FLA) program, now called Consulting Kickstart.

From my first encounter with Bain, I was drawn to both the work and the passion that Bainies have for what they do. I went on to participate in Building Entrepreneurial Leaders (BEL) as a sophomore and completed a summer internship during my junior year. Those two experiences confirmed that Bain was where I wanted to start my career. After my internship, I accepted a full-time offer and, now more than a year later, I continue to find new aspects of the job that reaffirm this was the right journey and destination for me.

One of my favorite cases at Bain focused on strategic workforce planning for a vertically integrated U.S. utility company. Our team analyzed how talent needs and workforce demand would evolve through 2030 to identify the most critical capabilities and roles for the future. Based on this, we highlighted key gaps and developed detailed talent strategies and action plans to attract, upskill, and retain talent in those areas.

The project was highly collaborative and included multiple workshop sessions with the client, which gave me a firsthand look at Bain’s true approach—working with clients, not just for them. We left the client with a clear, repeatable playbook and roadmap that enabled them to scale these strategies seamlessly across the enterprise.

What advice would you give a candidate who is interested in recruiting for consulting?

My biggest piece of advice is to start your recruiting preparation as early as possible. The process can feel overwhelming, and it tends to go more smoothly when spread out over time. As soon as you know you’re interested in consulting, start running a few cases, attending company info sessions, and connecting with people at the firms that interest you. You don’t need to have an interview scheduled to begin preparing for one!

Practice cases at a pace that feels manageable, and try to find a prep buddy who’s also going through the process—having someone to keep you accountable can make a huge difference.
