Share your journey to Bain.
After undergrad, I moved back to my home country of Singapore to work in Investment Banking for two years. While I enjoyed many aspects of banking and gained valuable skills, I realized I would be more fulfilled working to answer strategic questions and address the types of dynamic, complex problems Bain clients are looking to solve.
This realization led me to Chicago, where I enrolled in UChicago Booth's Master in Management program for a year. Whilst at Booth, I had the opportunity to take classes in strategy, marketing, and analytics that complemented my professional background in finance and academic background in the humanities.
I chose to focus my full-time recruiting efforts on Management Consulting, and Bain ultimately stood out because of its genuine people and collaborative firm culture.
How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?
During my recruiting process, every Bainie I spoke with was excited to give me their valuable time, willing to answer any questions I had, and seemed truly invested in my journey. I had also heard about Bain's home office staffing model and was excited at the prospect of getting to build longstanding relationships with colleagues I'd see on a daily basis.
Since having joined Bain, I've found that people are genuinely invested in one another's personal and professional successes. Our collaborative, feedback-focused, and mentorship-driven approach has helped me learn and grow in a supportive environment, and lean on colleagues or peers when needed. The genuine people I work with every day are a testament to the fact that Bain was the right choice for me.

One aspect of working at Bain that excites me is the sheer breadth of client work we get to do. Whether working with a non-profit, a large retail company, or a Private Equity firm (plus many others!), the variable nature of problems we are solving keeps each case interesting and provides unique learning opportunities.
Within my first four months in the Private Equity Group (PEG), I worked on five deals across five different industries. One of my favorite parts of this was coming out of each deal with a tremendous amount of knowledge on a seemingly niche topic, but finding a way to connect that to my own life.
For example, during a deal about the packaging industry, I learned about how retail e-commerce companies use packaging in their broader supply chain. Concurrently, I started noticing nuances in the packaging or the delivery process when a box showed up at my doorstep from my own online order! Realizing the extent to which the work I am doing can affect so many people's everyday lives has been particularly rewarding.
