James Root is a member of our Consumer Products and Organization practices. He is a co-chair of Bain Futures, our proprietary global think tank, which tackles the client implications of coming trends. He focuses on corporate transformations involving strategy, cost management, operational improvement and organizational effectiveness.
James previously served as managing partner of our New York office, as the leader of our APAC Organization practice, and as a chairman of our Global Nominating Committee.
Scale insurgents compete with a different playbook. They are pushing the edges on how to design an organization and how to create people success stories inside it.
His core client work includes a 16-year transformative journey with a global consumer products leader, during which the business has tripled in size and quintupled in profitability. He currently serves as our global account leader for the organization.
James has been published extensively on branding, international expansion, growth strategy and the Firm of the Future across the business press, including the Harvard Business Review and The Wall Street Journal. He has also been featured on international media platforms including CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg.
He is a recipient of our firm's Bright-Dix Award, which annually recognizes an individual's outstanding contribution to the professional development of others.
During a leave of absence from our firm, James was the co-founder, board director and president of a business process outsourcing firm based in Malaysia, serving multinationals across APAC. While there, he was fully responsible for the company's business operations.
James holds an MBA from London Business School and a B.A from the University of Cambridge.
He is an adjunct professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he teaches courses across the MBA and Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA programs.
