The private equity industry generated another impressive surge in investment value in 2018. Although fierce competition and rising asset prices pushed the number of individual deals down 13% to 2,936 worldwide, global buyout value jumped 10% to $582 billion (including add-on deals). That brought the total since 2014 to $2.5 trillion, the strongest five-year run in the industry’s history.
