      About Bain

      Diverse Teams, One Bain

      Diverse Teams, One Bain

We welcome and celebrate different perspectives to help our firm, our clients, and our people achieve extraordinary, enduring results.

At Bain, we are committed to a set of five operating principles, which define who we are and how we behave. And one in particular is at the heart of how we build extraordinary teams: Diverse Teams, One Bain.

We know that different experiences and perspectives create teams that are stronger than the sum of their individual parts and that those teams deliver outstanding results for our clients. We hire people with unparalleled talents, abilities, and potential—and a broad range of backgrounds, cultures, and skills—and bring them into a uniquely collaborative environment where they all can contribute their best to their teams and to our work for our clients.

The power of Bain is the results we create together with our clients. Diverse perspectives, different experiences, and a mix of expertise and skills solving the hardest problems. We support one another, we deliver as one team, and we unlock new value. That’s what makes the outcomes extraordinary.

      Building Diverse Teams

      Building Diverse Teams

At Bain, extraordinary teams begin with extraordinary people. And that doesn't happen by chance. We invest in more than 20 different exploratory programs to attract the world’s best talent and are proud to be ranked among the best places to work. Once at Bain, we provide meaningful professional development programs, mentorship, and sponsorship to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

      Inclusive Communities

Our eight affinity groups and many office-led communities of support foster deep connections through social events, meaningful dialogues, and global opportunities. These communities allow Bainies to connect over shared experiences and identities, often creating life-long relationships and support networks.

      Becoming One Bain

      Becoming One Bain

As a global team of over 20,000 with unique perspectives, these five behaviors—Committed, Purposeful, Curious, Empathetic, and Accountable—help us work as one. Our curious and empathetic nature drives us to elevate voices, celebrate cultures, and share inspiring stories that foster inclusivity. We purposefully invest in inclusive leadership and well-being programs, ensuring every Bainie feels valued. Accountability for our culture is woven into every dialogue, enabling us to grow and thrive together as Diverse Teams, One Bain.

Diverse Teams, One Bain expresses both how we work and why we work so well. A lot of thought, effort, and commitment goes into ensuring that every Bainie can contribute their best to their teams, every day.

We have a longstanding commitment to building diverse and inclusive teams that has not wavered.

We remain committed to attracting and retaining the most talented professionals from all backgrounds. This means eliminating systemic and unconscious biases so that everyone at Bain has an opportunity to thrive, realize their full potential, and build a career they’re proud of.

I have been lucky enough to live our focus on extraordinary teaming for the last 26 years. It is at the heart of how we deliver value and differentiates us as one of the best places to work and grow. We are constantly working on evolving and improving the experience of individuals and the effectiveness of teams. That means attention to inclusion and diversity across all dimensions-- inclusive leadership training, the reimagining of our processes and systems, and the expansion of early opportunities for more people to learn about Bain careers—and a commitment that goes well beyond words to actions.

Tamar Dor-Ner, Americas Regional Managing Partner, Boston

We have intentionally identified and built a set of efforts to ensure an equitable talent journey and an inclusive culture for all.

We do intentional, persistent work in the Nordics to build a more inclusive and equitable culture. One of the most meaningful ways I’ve experienced this is through mentorship. I’ve had the privilege of mentoring two incredible individuals, and those relationships have grounded me with a renewed sense of purpose. It’s not just about offering advice—it’s about showing up, listening, and helping others find their own voice and path.

Beyond one-on-one connections, we also come together as a community to reflect on inclusion. From town halls to informal gatherings, we’ve created purposeful spaces to address challenges and also share ideas on how we can be more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. From adding visual cues to our spaces to fostering open discussions, we’re creating a culture that speaks not only through strategy decks, but through intentional signals of allyship and belonging.

Pedro Nabais, Director, Strategy and Operations, Copenhagen

We provide a wide set of opportunities for Bainies to learn about each other through storytelling and internal communities.

Our Black at Bain (BAB) affinity group in South America is a growing community. When we attended the Americas BAB Summit in Chicago in 2023, I decided to do a panel to share the differences in our Black experience. The US and Brazil have different ways of thinking about color, race, and history, and that conversation can get complex. I was nervous about sharing, but the Summit organizers were very supportive, and it was nice to experience how many Bainies were curious to understand more. Despite the differences between the Black communities in both countries, it’s really inspiring that we can share experiences and learnings. Our BAB group in Brazil is relatively new, so it was special for me to see members of our global BAB leadership at the Summit, including partners who have been part of Bain for over 20 years.

      Marina Monteiro, Consultant, Sao Paulo

We invest in creating inclusive teams and broader support systems that ensure everyone feels valued.

I became a mental health first aider at Bain because it’s an opportunity to go beyond helping someone build slides or a model and help them make progress in their lives outside of Bain. Management consulting can be challenging, and sometimes people just need someone to listen or point them toward the right resources. Given my own mental health journey, I felt this was also a powerful and empathetic way I could give back. My supervisor and her boss trust that if I’m dropping everything to help someone, I’m doing it for an important reason. I feel lucky that the people I have found at Bain are very supportive — as mentors, advisors, or mental health first aiders. It feels very special when someone cares about you: You tend in life to gravitate to those people, and that matters at work as well.

We aspire to ongoing growth, where every Bainie is expected to contribute to building a culture where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

When I started 12 years ago, Bain India had no female partners, and we tended to hire from the same three universities, which was great for bonding, but not for diversity. As a consultant, I had the opportunity to transfer to Bangkok—a welcoming office with a community of Banies from many different backgrounds—and I came back to India with a different perspective. I saw there was a lot of value in working with people who had different experiences and wanted to make sure transfers to the Mumbai office had the same positive, warm experience I did. It was personal for me.

Today, our office and leadership are a lot more accountable for inclusion. When someone with a disability joined, we modified our offices and ensured our clients’ offices were accessible too. We’ve seen more Bainies stay in client-facing roles after maternity leave because we try to help them thrive as both parents and consultants. Policies that support our people are critical, but you still need leaders committed to making that work.
