Stephen Phillips

Stephen Phillips is the chairman of our Enterprise Technology practice and brings over 30 years of experience in technology line management and advisory roles.

He has supported digital transformation programs across sectors, with a particular focus on large-scale core systems modernization. His deepest industry experience has been in banking, insurance, and retail. Functionally, Stephen’s client work has covered technology strategy, architecture, cost optimization, outsourcing, and organizational design. He has also led IT workstreams in multiple merger and separation efforts. Recent engagements include re-platforming a leading UK property and casualty insurer, launching a digital bank in the Middle East, enabling a European retailer’s shift to a product-based technology operating model, and delivering a technology cost-reduction initiative for a UK financial services firm that cut like-for-like spend by 20%. In addition, Stephen advises investors on the due diligence of assets in the software and IT services sectors. He also led our acquisition of Enterprise Blueprints, a provider of enterprise and solution architecture services, and serves on its board of directors.

Prior to joining Bain in 2002, Stephen worked in the systems integration and outsourcing industry. He holds an MEng in electrical and mechanical engineering from Queen Mary, University of London, where he was sponsored by Hawker Siddeley.
