What advice would you give a candidate who is interested in recruiting for consulting?

My biggest piece of advice would be to spend time truly understanding why you are interested in consulting beyond just the prestige or fast-paced environment. Recruiting for a top three firm can be demanding, and the candidates who stand out are usually the ones who can clearly articulate what excites them about solving complex problems, working on teams, and how their unique experience can contribute.

I would also encourage candidates to start preparing early and be consistent with their preparation. For case interviews, focus less on memorizing frameworks and more on building structured thinking, clear communication, and comfort with ambiguity. Practicing with peers is one of the best ways to improve because it helps you learn how to think out loud and adapt in real time.

What should candidates know?

Candidates should know that Bain is a place that combines high performance with a genuinely supportive and collaborative culture. Our people are incredibly driven, but there is also a strong sense of teamwork and mentorship that makes the environment feel very different from the stereotypical “competitive consulting” image.
