Share your journey to Bain.
I discovered consulting in my sophomore year at UNC. After joining a student-run consulting group, I realized I connected with not only the people but the hands-on experience of partnering with local small businesses and nonprofits where our work could make a tangible difference.
I didn’t receive the associate consultant internship initially, so I spent the summer interning at another consulting firm. My experience there confirmed that consulting was where I wanted to start my career. While I would have been happy continuing there, Bain was my top choice so I decided to reapply and received an Associate Consultant offer.
After graduating from UNC, I took time to travel and reset before starting full-time. I completed two UNESCO pilgrimage routes: the Camino de Santiago through Portugal and Spain and the Kumano Kodo in Japan. I also visited friends in Denmark, Italy, Austria, and Singapore and did some hikes around the US including at my favorite national park, Mt. Rainier. That time left me excited to start my Bain journey.
How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?
It came down to the people and the culture. Every interaction felt authentic. Bain is full of teams that are ambitious about results but also invest in each other through mentorship, feedback, and sponsorship. I wanted a place where I’d be challenged and also coached, and Bain consistently showed that balance.
Share some of your favorite work (personal or professional) you’ve done while at Bain.
Absolutely. I’ve been able to drive impact through a mix of Extra 10s, pro bono work, and client engagements. Through Extra 10 (Global Development), we advised a Kenyan social entrepreneur on potential adjacencies and built a cash-flow model as they prepare for WHO qualification. On a pro bono case, we’re identifying ways to strengthen fundraising strategy and performance to help the organization reach its target. And across my casework, I’ve been able to see impact in real time as clients implement our recommendations.
