Share your journey to Bain.
I was a finance major at the University of Utah with no idea what I wanted to do. I tried a bunch of internships across finance and liked all of them, but I hadn't found the thing I wanted to do every day.
That changed when I joined Utah's consulting program. We'd get handed a real company's problem with no answer key, and I'd spend a week arguing with my team about what the numbers actually meant, then walk into a room and tell the people who ran the company what we thought they should do. I'd get to the end of a long night and want to keep working. That hadn't happened to me before.
I chose Bain because of the people I talked to. They seemed to actually like their work and what they were doing, which sounds like a low bar until you've asked enough people the same question.
My internship in the Chicago office was the confirmation. I like problem solving, and I like it a lot more when something happens at the end of it. Our team helped the client find $100 million in savings, and it was so cool seeing how big an impact we were having. That, and wanting to keep working with people like the ones on my team, is what made me take the return offer. I officially started full time in the summer of 2026.
How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?
I asked a lot of questions during recruiting, and the answers at Bain were the ones that stuck with me. People liked their work, and they liked the people they did it with, and they were specific about both, which is harder to fake than enthusiasm.
That's held up. You hear early on that a Bainie never lets another Bainie fail, and what surprised me is how ordinary it looks in practice. It's someone sitting down and reworking a slide with you instead of sending it back with comments, or answering a question that wasn't theirs to answer. I've been on the receiving end of that more times than I can count, and it's made me want to be the person on the other end of it.
Do you feel like you can do impactful work at Bain? What opportunities excite you?
The opportunity to have a real impact was one of the biggest reasons I joined Bain. Few places give you the chance, so early in your career, to help shape the direction of large companies and contribute to conversations with senior leaders. I’ve also enjoyed seeing how decisions move from an idea to execution inside complex organizations. The opportunities that excite me most are those where I can work closely with clients, solve difficult problems, and see the results put into practice.
