How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?
At WashU, I studied Psych-Neuroscience-Philosophy with minors in Gender Studies and Marketing. I loved learning about a variety of subjects and with a variety of people. When it came to a post-grad job, consulting seemed like the perfect move, given the opportunity to keep such a mix of learning in my life. Bain emphasizes this even further. I continue to be pleasantly surprised to find people with diverse academic backgrounds and interests, who share my excitement for continuous learning opportunities. It's common to hear that at Bain that whenever you get comfortable doing something, you'll be challenged in a new way and never have a dull day. Each week, every case team will even have a conversation about how things are going, including a piece on learning and growing to ensure everyone feels they are being challenged in an exciting way. This is part of what makes me so enthusiastic about working at Bain and enjoy every day.
Do you feel like you can do impactful work at Bain? What opportunities excite you?
I continue to be shocked by the scale and impact of the work at Bain. Within my first six months, I found myself recommending massive changes to one of the largest companies in the world. Even as a new AC, you are a huge part of building the answer and changing the future of top companies, typically having major impacts on the world. This also applies to the pro bono projects and Extra 10 work, which I am excited to get more involved in. It is extremely energizing to go to work each day knowing that the work you do has massive impacts.
“Build Your Own Bain” means creating a thriving career on your own terms. How have you been able to “Build Your Own Bain?”
One of my favorite parts of Bain has been the Extra 10s and seeing how the Bain culture and strategic approach applies to everything we do. I've gotten involved in recruiting, Women at Bain, Chicago office strategy, and even started a new golf club. In and out of case work, Bain sticks with the concept of being "at cause". In each of these Extra 10s, if there is something that energizes me, I am encouraged to create the path forward myself and find support where I need. If I find a problem that needs improvement, I can jump right in. This leads to fast and effective change, run by the people most passionate about it. It's easy to "Build Your Own Bain" at a place where being "at cause" is a major emphasis.
