Share your journey to Bain.
I entered college thinking I’d end up in startups or product. Sophomore year, after talking to older UCSB students and alumni I looked up to, I realized consulting was the ultimate accelerator into almost anything- it offered exposure to the highest profile business cases, a crash course on teamwork and communication, a deep analytical toolkit, and a badge that makes you trusted and desired by most establishments. UCSB did not have a strong pipeline into consulting, but these perks made it irrational not to put my all into getting in!
How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?
After the Associate Consultant training off-site, I had to repeatedly convince friends and family I wasn’t being sarcastic when I said it was one of the most memorable weeks of my life. Personality must be at the top of Bain's interview criteria, because I left with more laughs and lasting connections than anything prior!
What should candidates know?
Mastering the case interview has two critical benefits for candidates. The obvious one is that you showcase strong critical thinking and analytical skills, but equally important is the mechanics of the interview fading into the background. When you're fully present and stress-free due to mastery, personality and confidence can shine through.
Do you feel like you can do impactful work at Bain? What opportunities excite you?
I've been able to maintain my passion for entrepreneurship and technology with my work in the private equity group, talking to founders, employees, and customers to inform critical investment decisions. A few answers I've had the privilege of chasing down are the durability of an online automotive market's revenue, the competitive positioning of a background verification vendor, and the global market size for an online game!
