Overview

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the UAE’s global bank, continues to advance and scale the adoption of artificial intelligence across its operations and client offerings. FAB has established a dedicated AI Innovation Hub, a tightly connected and yet standalone unit with an AI-driven mindset. The AI Innovation Hub has been set up to support transforming key processes and elevating customer experiences across its business segments, as part of FAB’s broader ambition to become a leading AI-powered financial institution.

The Approach

Developed in partnership with Bain & Company and Microsoft, the AI Innovation Hub combines technical and operational expertise to drive innovation at scale. Bain has led the development of a strategic roadmap, identifying next-generation AI capabilities and implementing a build-operate-transfer model for the Hub. Meanwhile, Microsoft serves as the primary technology partner, providing cloud infrastructure, data platforms, engineering capabilities, and advanced generative AI and agentic solutions that are now supporting enterprise-scale deployment of AI use cases across the Bank.

Bain’s data scientists and engineers are playing a central role in shaping the Hub’s innovations. The swift ramp-up of an internal team, led by a newly hired Chief AI Officer, underscores the long-term ambition. The joint team enables the swift delivery of scalable, high-impact solutions.

The AI Innovation Hub reflects FAB’s broader transformation into an AI-forward bank, where intelligence is embedded across every layer of the organization. As the UAE’s global bank, we are already deploying AI at scale across core banking processes, fundamentally reshaping how decisions are made, how value is created, and how we serve clients. This is now an enterprise capability, and it is driving measurable impact in performance, efficiency, and customer experience across the Group.

The Hub is built on a robust data platform developed by FAB’s IT team. The platform plays a pivotal role in enabling the rapid deployment of agentic use cases, with solutions already enhancing decision making, improving efficiency, and driving commercial performance.

FAB, Bain, and Microsoft have worked as an integrated team across all phases of the initiative, from strategy through execution, ensuring seamless AI transformation. To date, more than 20 agentic AI use cases have been implemented across the Bank, with 20 more in development. Six priority innovation themes are spanning wealth, consumer, and wholesale banking, as well as enterprise functions:

•    Frontline commercial excellence
•    Hyper-personalisation and marketing
•    Service model and customer experience
•    End-to-end pricing and credit AI
•    Intelligent reporting and decision making
•    Advanced process and workflow reimagination

The first wave of innovation has focused on empowering relationship managers with AI-driven tools, including investment advisory, asset and liability recommendations, and account planning capabilities. A second wave will address end-to-end sales and service KPIs, targeting double-digit improvements in capacity, customer acquisition, loan loss reduction, and campaign efficiency.

Security and responsible AI deployment are foundational to the Hub’s design. Regulatory compliance has been embedded from the outset, with governance frameworks, qualification processes, and enforcement mechanisms integrated into the Hub’s architecture and operations.

Looking ahead, FAB will continue to build on the foundation established by the AI Innovation Hub, scaling AI capabilities across the organization and its client offerings. The focus will be on deepening integration across business lines, expanding high-impact use cases, and unlocking new sources of value. AI remains central to FAB’s long-term strategy, enhancing operational agility, strengthening risk intelligence, and supporting the UAE’s digital economy ambitions.
