Matt Birch is a member of our Energy and Natural Resources and Performance Improvement practices.
He has worked across West, Southern, and Eastern Africa, supporting multiple mining and telecommunications clients through multi-year transformation programs, as well as strategic and operational improvement interventions.
Beyond client work, Matt is passionate about our people. He is the professional standards manager for Bain Africa and plays a key role in recruiting, staffing, and professional development functions. He received Bain Africa's 2020 Mandela Award, which recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions to the firm, office, and team.
In 2018, Matt successfully thru-hiked the 2,600-mile Pacific Crest Trail in the Western United States.
Before joining us, Matt was a consultant for a global boutique TMT advisory business. Prior to his consulting career, he graduated from the University of Cape Town with an honours degree in Business Science, where he majored in actuarial science, mathematics, and statistics.
He has continued to develop his passion for big data and AI through further vocational courses.
In his personal time, Matt is an avid hiker, indoor rock climber, keen cook, and homebrewer.
