Debra McCoy is a partner in our global Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility practice.
Debbie rejoined us in 2021 and is based in our San Francisco office. She most recently spent six years as a Managing Director at BlackRock, where she was Head of Sustainable Investing for an active investing team that manages approximately $200B in assets.
At the core of Debbie’s professional experiences across investing and operating roles is her commitment to decision-making informed by analysis which meaningfully and explicitly takes into account communities, employees, and the environment in profit and growth objectives and outcomes. This commitment led her to pursue roles and projects in asset management, consumer and institutional banking, academia, and strategy in New Delhi, Johannesburg, Bangkok, Dubai, New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. – and brought her back to Bain.
Debbie initially worked for our firm between 1996 and 2000 after graduating from Howard University, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature and minors in chemistry and biology. She later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was a Toigo Fellow.
Civic involvement is important to Debbie, and she has responsibilities on multiple boards and advisory groups, including the Board of Governors of the San Francisco Symphony. She is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In addition, Debbie received a non-partisan appointment from the President of the United States that allowed her to serve for one year as a White House Fellow at the U.S. Department of State. Debbie was raised in San Jose, California.
